For our fifth photo assignment, our task was to choose a category and go have a photoshoot. This week, I took a step out of my comfort zone and decided to try light painting. I don't really know anything about this type of photography, but I've seen pictures and they look super cool. I borrowed a tripod and used my phone for a light source (I really wanted to use glow sticks but the grocery store was all out). I used innovative ways to change the color and pattern of the light. For example I would put my hand over it to change the color red. Shutter speed- 15 seconds, Aperture- f/7.1, ISO-100 I had a lot of fun with this assignment and I will be trying light painting again! Next time, I want to experiment with more textures and colors of the light source, but I think these are pretty good photos for my first time trying. I shot these at night in my living room, and had my Dad model for some of them. This assignment required me to use creativity and to have LOTS of patience.

For this Photoshop assignment, we had to create an image that composited multiple versions of me or a friend into a scene. We worked with tools like layer masking and photo stacks. We created two of these photos. One with a person and one with another object of our choice. For the person photo, I asked my friend Grace to do different poses around/on one of the staircases. I placed her in the foreground and background to give lots of depth of field. I really enjoyed this assignment. I thought it was really fun to take different photos of a scene with a subject and stack them together to make it look like there's more than one of them.
For our fourth photo assignment, our task was to choose a category and go have a photoshoot. This week, I chose macro. I don't have a macro lens so I decided to use my 85mm 1.8 lens to achieve a very small depth of field in my photos. I really wanted to capture a "Michigan fall" this week so I chose detailed fall items to photograph. Shutter speed- 1/640, Aperture- f/2.0, ISO- 800 ***I did no additional editing for this photo as the colors were fantastic and I didn't want to over-edit*** I had so much fun during this assignment and I think it was a great way to spend my Friday off from school. We had all these items around our house and I think photographing in macro shows the detail of each item. The colors really pop without any editing and I'll for sure do this type of photography in the future!
For this assignment, we had to go take a photo somewhere in the school and edit it in photoshop. We could do anything we wanted so I took a photo of the EDGE and turned it into a mini ocean/fish tank. I added goldfish and lots of decor. We also had to include a shadow somewhere in our edit so I decided to include it underneath one of my goldfish. This assignment actually took me quite a long time to do. The EDGE has quite a lot of stuff in it so cutting out each of the individual windows took some time. I really like how my edit turned out and I had a lot of fun putting the decor in it. I think this is really unique and cool but I probably wouldn't do it again.
For our third photo assignment, our task was to choose a category and go have a photoshoot. This week, I chose black and white. The homecoming dance was Saturday night and my friend, Erin, came over to get ready. Since her dress was black and simple, I thought that taking portraits of her and turning them black and white would suit the style I was going for. We shot around golden hour so we got some really backlit images. I love how some of them have the effect of sun flares and exposure. Shutter speed- 1/4000, Aperture- f/1.8, ISO- 800 This shoot taught me a lot about shooting backlit and working with the exposure. I had to play around a lot with editing in Photoshop too to get just the right, well-edited image. This shoot was super fun to do because I've never done this "formal" photography.
For this assignment, we had to go out and shoot photographs that would be “stitched” or “composited” together in Photoshop. We used the Photomerge tool to put several photos together and create a panoramic photo. This assignment required us to be very steady and not move the camera as much, or we could use a tripod to pan the landscape. This assignment was actually quite challenging for me. It took a while to brainstorm ideas/places to take panoramic pictures of. I think the idea of stitching together multiple photos together would be good for beautiful landscapes like the Grand Canyon or the beach. I found all of the tools in Photoshop easy to learn and access for this assignment.
For our second photo assignment, our task was to choose a category from a bunch listed and go have a photoshoot. This time, I chose the category of animals. Specifically horses. I love/ride horses so I thought this category would suit me. The horses in these photos live at the barn I ride at. This cutie is named Tux :) Shutter speed- 1/1000, Aperture- f/1.8, ISO- 640 This is my horse Zeke :) This assignment was quite a challenge because I didn't have a zoom lens on my camera. I had to physically walk closer to my subjects. I also had to brainstorm ideas to get them to perk their ears at me. To do this, I just shook their grain bin haha. With some editing I really like how these photos turned out and how the focus is just on their face and not their entire body or surroundings.
For this assignment, our task was to use Photoshop and edit a photo of a red car. We used crop to even out the photo, levels to make the red brighter and more enhanced, clone stamp to remove bright spots reflected from the lights, and quick selection to make the background black and tint the windshields. Original car photo Retouched by me The next set of images were taken and retouched by me :)Original Retouched During this assignment, I learned more ways to use the tools in Photoshop. I will for sure be using these techniques for many of my photos. I'm looking forward to using the quick selection and brush tools to put different backgrounds around horses and other subjects.
For my second shooting assignment, I want to focus on the subject of animals. But not just a dog or cat, horses. I love horses and want to capture their big hearts, personality, and beauty for my assignment. I'm really excited for this because I will be trying to just get the focus on their faces, and have their chests, back, etc. out of focus. These are great examples because they have a clear depth of field and subject in the image. It shows their unique facial markings and you can really see their personality shine through the photo. They aren't distracting at all but are quite simple and well edited.
For our first photo assignment, our task was to choose a category from a bunch listed and go have a photoshoot. I choose portrait photography because I love to take portrait photos. I scheduled a shoot with one of my friends, Elena, and we went to a super dreamy field around golden hour/sunset. It was super mystical because there was lots of wildflowers and tall grass. It was so hard choosing pictures because I took over 200! Shutter speed- 1/1000, Aperture- f/1.8, ISO- 800 This was the first portrait photoshoot I've done in full manual mode on my camera. But I think my images turned out way better than they would've if I was going fully or even partially auto. Many of the photos that I took during this shoot turned out fantastic, and I think the beautiful location and Elena's modeling are to thank. These photos are going to be a marvelous addition to my portfolio!
